Mr. Acosta was born and raised, in Miami, Florida. He attended Florida International University (“FIU”) where he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, partially on a scholarship from the Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States.

At FIU, he was asked to participate in the Student Honors Mentor Program, a privilege granted only to those students achieving academic excellence. Mr. Acosta was also Chapter Chair of the Florida Public Interest Research Group. As acting chair, he facilitated the weekly meetings and led several committees. One committee, which consisted of a mock election used to encourage student votes, received local media coverage.

He obtained his law degree from Nova Southeastern University, Shepard Broad Law Center where he successfully participated in moot court competitions. Upon graduation in 1996, Mr. Acosta joined the law firm of Hightower & Rudd as a litigation associate in the Miami office.

Shortly thereafter he became the litigation manager for the Miami office. In December 2000 Mr. Acosta was invited to become a name partner in the firm, which was renamed to Hightower, Rudd, Weiser, & Acosta, P.A. His achievements while at the firm included bringing numerous trials successfully to verdict.

Mr. Acosta is “AV” rated by Martindale-Hubbell. This is the highest rating a lawyer can achieve exemplifying the highest level of professional excellence, as determined by extensive and confidential peer review.

Having met all of the requirements, Mr. Acosta has been approved by the Florida Bar’s Civil Trial Certification Committee to sit for the exam to finalize becoming Board Certified in Civil Trial.

He is licensed to practice in the State of Florida, the United States District Court for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida, and the United States District Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

Mr. Acosta has served as Chair of the Florida Bar’s Unlicensed Practice of Law Committee. He is a member of The Florida Defense Lawyers Assoc., The Defense Research Institute, and the Dade County Bar Assoc. (since 1996), Civil Litigation Committee (1997 and 1998). He is also featured in the 11th Edition of Who’s Who in American Law.
